Dr. Fiona Bartoli is a Research Fellow at the School of Medicine, University of Leeds, within the Faculty of Medicine and Health. She is currently based at the Leeds Institute of Medical Research (LIMR) at St James’s Hospital, where she conducts postdoctoral research on calcium signalling in Malignant Hyperthermia. Her work is supported by the British Heart Foundation (BHF), and she is affiliated with the Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine (LICAMM) and the Multidisciplinary Cardiovascular Research Centre (MCRC).
Education:
- PhD in Cardiac Pathophysiology, University of Paris-Saclay, France (2018)
- MSc in Physiology and Neurosciences, University of Poitiers, France (2014)
- BSc in Physiology and Neurosciences
Her research focuses on the role of calcium channels in cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases, particularly in heart failure and fibrotic progression. She has investigated Orai1 and Piezo1 channels and their impact on cellular signaling, excitation-contraction coupling, and whole-body physical activity. Her expertise spans molecular biology, calcium imaging, and cardiac physiology.
Dr. Bartoli was awarded the competitive BHF Mautner Career Development Fellowship in 2021 to study calcium signalling pathways in fibrotic progression in the failing human heart. This fellowship supports early-career researchers in establishing independent research trajectories.
She has been involved in postdoctoral research projects under Prof. David Beech’s group and has transitioned into independent project leadership at LIMR. While no formal advisees are listed, her role involves mentoring within collaborative research environments.
Dr. Bartoli is a member of key research institutes at Leeds, including LICAMM and MCRC, which focus on cardiovascular and metabolic disease mechanisms. These affiliations support interdisciplinary collaboration in translational medical research.
