Emma Hunt

Emma Hunt is an Assistant Professor of Earth Sciences at Furman University, specializing in igneous petrology and sustainable mining practices. Her research focuses on magma processes, critical mineral resources, and geoscience education. Dr. Hunt holds a PhD from the University of St Andrews and an MGeoscience from the University of Keele. She conducted postdoctoral research at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, supported by NRF and DST-NRF fellowships.

Her work combines field and laboratory techniques to study mineral formation in layered intrusions and pegmatites. She collaborates internationally on projects involving South Africa’s Bushveld Complex and Greenland’s Ilímaussaq Complex. Dr. Hunt emphasizes responsible mining practices and integrates sustainability into her teaching, developing curricula to prepare students for geoscience careers.
