Dr. Emily Wroe is an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Associate Physician in the Division of Global Health Equity at Brigham & Women’s Hospital. She holds dual roles as Senior Advisor for Partners In Health’s (PIH) U.S. COVID response and Associate Director of Policy & Implementation for the NCD Synergies Project. Previously, she led PIH’s contact tracing program in Massachusetts, overseeing training for 4,000 tracers and managing a 200-person Care Resource Coordinator team. Her work in Malawi included strengthening HIV care integration with NCDs, launching community screening programs, and co-chairing Malawi’s National NCDs & Injuries of Poverty Commission. Wroe graduated from Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health, completing residency at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.
Her research focuses on global health equity, particularly in low-resource settings. Key interests include integrated care models for NCDs and HIV, policy-driven healthcare system strengthening, and pandemic preparedness. She has contributed to studies on critical care capacity, diabetes management in rural Africa, and the PEN-Plus strategy for decentralized NCD care. Partnerships include collaborations with Malawi’s Ministry of Health and global health initiatives like the Lancet NCDI Poverty Commission.
Wroe’s work emphasizes bridging gaps in healthcare access through policy innovation and community-centered approaches. Her recent projects address gaps in palliative care, mental health integration, and equitable resource distribution for chronic diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. She has published extensively on health system readiness, cost-effectiveness analyses of NCD interventions, and the impact of community health workers in resource-limited settings.
