Anne E. Becker is the Dean for Clinical and Academic Affairs at the Harvard Medical School and holds the Maude and Lillian Presley Professorship in Global Health and Social Medicine. Her research focuses on global mental health, cultural psychiatry, and eating disorders, emphasizing health equity and cross-cultural perspectives. She has pioneered studies on the impact of globalization on body image and mental health in diverse populations, including Fiji, Lebanon, and Haiti.
Becker’s work bridges academic leadership with practical global health initiatives, such as the Lancet NCDI Poverty Commission and mental health training programs for educators in low-resource settings. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles, advocating for culturally sensitive approaches to mental health diagnosis and treatment.
Her research spans topics like post-conflict youth resilience, the intersection of climate change and eating disorders, and the validation of mental health assessment tools in non-Western contexts. She has collaborated extensively with institutions in the Global South to strengthen local health systems and address disparities in care access.
