Emily Fridlund is an Associate Professor in the Department of Literatures in English at Cornell University, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. She holds a PhD in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Southern California and an MFA from Washington University in St. Louis. Her research focuses on creative writing, contemporary American and British literature, gender studies, feminist and queer writing, narrative theory, the Gothic novel, and climate change fiction.
Her debut novel History of Wolves (2017) garnered significant acclaim, including finalist nods for the Man Booker Prize and Dublin IMPAC Prize, as well as winning the Sue Kaufman Prize and Great Lakes Colleges Association Award. Her story collection Catapult won the Mary McCarthy Prize. Her short fiction has appeared in Boston Review, ZYZZYVA, and other journals.
In 2025, Fridlund taught courses such as MFA Seminar: Fiction (ENGL 7801), Pedagogical and Thesis Development (ENGL 7890), and Directed Study (ENGL 7940). She has been recognized for teaching and advising excellence and participates in literary initiatives like the Zalaznick Reading Series.
