John Dalton is an Associate Professor in the English Department at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and editor of the literary journal Natural Bridge. As an award-winning novelist, he received the Barnes and Noble Discover Award in Fiction and the Sue Kaufman Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for his debut novel Heaven Lake, and his second novel The Inverted Forest was lauded as a best book of the year by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Wall Street Journal's "Book Lover."
His academic and creative work focuses on Creative Writing, American Literature, and the intersection of Fiction vs. Popular Fiction. He has taught graduate courses such as Literary Journal Editing, Fiction Writing Pedagogy, and Techniques in Fiction, alongside undergraduate courses in fiction writing and storytelling craft.
