Soma Mei Sheng Frazier is an Associate Professor of Creative Writing at SUNY Oswego, specializing in fiction and literary arts. She holds a BA from Pomona College and an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College. Her work explores themes of race, identity, and social justice through narratives that blend personal and political landscapes. Frazier is the author of the novel Off the Books (2024), three prose chapbooks, and numerous short stories and essays published in Electric Literature, ZYZZYVA, and Lithub.
Before joining SUNY Oswego, she taught at institutions including the University of San Francisco and Gavilan College, and founded Subnivean, a student-run literary publication recognized by the CLMP Firecracker Awards. Her awards include Pushcart Prize nominations, the storySouth Notable distinction, and nods from HBO and Screencraft.
Frazier’s research interests intersect creative writing with critical discourse on race and gender. She has advised students in courses like Screenwriting and Digital Storytelling, emphasizing innovative narrative forms. Her writing often addresses intersectional experiences, as seen in her essay Flowers From Family and the triptych Collateral Damage.
