Elysa Ioannou

Dr. Elysa Ioannou is a Researcher at Sheffield Hallam University's Sport and Physical Activity Research Centre and Health Research Institute, focusing on physical activity interventions for diabetes prevention and management. Her work employs socio-ecological frameworks to understand complex health behaviors and systems-level interventions.

Her research examines barriers and facilitators to physical activity among women with gestational diabetes, aiming to reduce type 2 diabetes risk. She utilizes realist-informed methods, qualitative approaches, and systematic reviews to develop evidence-based health promotion strategies. Current projects include the NIHR-funded ENHANCE study evaluating childhood obesity clinics.
