Dr. Madeleine Benton is an NIHR Advanced Research Fellow in Perinatal Psychology at King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). She leads interdisciplinary research at the intersection of maternal mental and physical health, focusing on gestational diabetes, health inequalities, and family-centered interventions. Her current NIHR Advanced Fellowship (TANGO) develops interventions to prevent type 2 diabetes in women with gestational diabetes history. She co-leads the Women’s Mental Health Module on the Mental Health Studies MSc.
Education: PhD in Psychology (University of Adelaide, 2020). Expertise includes mixed-methods research and clinical trial design in perinatal health. Awards include the Diabetes UK Psychological Care Digital Poster Award (2022) and the NIHR Academy Poster Runner-Up (2022).
Research interests span gestational diabetes stigma, maternal-infant bonding, and public engagement in science. Key projects include a Malaysia-based digital diabetes intervention (MRC-funded) and collaborations with patient groups to ensure inclusive healthcare solutions. Active in global initiatives like the EMBRACE study, which uses AI to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
