Claire A Wilson is an NIHR Advanced Fellow and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist at King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. She holds a Senior Harkness Fellowship (2023-24) funded by the Commonwealth Fund. Her work focuses on the intergenerational transmission of mental health risks and interventions to prevent adverse developmental trajectories, particularly in preconception and perinatal periods. She employs epidemiological and policy-oriented methodologies to bridge research with clinical and public health practice.
Education: MRCPsych, PhD in Epidemiological Psychiatry, MBChB (University of Glasgow), BSc(Hons) Psychological Medicine.
Research interests include maternal mental health, gestational diabetes, substance misuse in pregnancy, and medical education. She has led projects like 'Enhanced Maternal and Baby Results with AI-supported Care and Empowerment (EMBRACE)' and contributed to global initiatives like the European COST Network on Perinatal Depression. Her recent work addresses racial inequalities in parental mental health and the impact of the pandemic on perinatal care.
Key grants include NIHR-funded projects on pregnancy planning for parents with mental illness and domestic violence identification in maternity settings. She collaborates internationally and advises organizations such as the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
