Dr. Frankie Fair is a Research Fellow in Midwifery at Sheffield Hallam University's School of Health and Social Care, part of the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. She joined the Maternal and Infant Health Research Group in 2014, focusing on reducing maternal inequalities through research in ethnic disparities, perinatal nutrition, breastfeeding support, and migrant maternal care. Her academic journey includes a BSc in Psychology (University of Sheffield, 1998), midwifery registration (2009), an MSc in Clinical Research (2012), and a PhD (2024) on gestational weight management for obese women.
Her research employs mixed-methods approaches, including systematic reviews, cohort studies, and NHS data linkage. Notable projects include the ORAMMA initiative (European Commission-funded) addressing migrant maternal care across Europe, the DigiCP project digitalizing perinatal mental health pathways, and evaluations of maternal obesity services. She has secured funding from bodies like the Burdett Trust for Nursing and Public Health England.
Teaching contributions include the Midwifery Evidence and Enquiry for Practice module. Her community engagement ensures research applicability, collaborating with service users and NHS Trusts. Current projects explore neonatal transport practices in Sub-Saharan Africa and the impact of the Baby Friendly Initiative accreditation. She holds an honorary role at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust to enhance women’s health research.
