Dr Eifiona Thomas Lane is a Lecturer in Environmental Management at the School of Environmental and Natural Sciences, Bangor University. She teaches on Geography and MGeography degrees, coordinates modules across all years, and supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation students. As a fluent Welsh speaker, she leads Welsh-medium teaching and is an Associate Lecturer with the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. She is actively involved in field-based education, coordinating local and international fieldwork, including the Barcelona advanced fieldwork module.
Her research interests span sustainable food systems, rural geography, cultural and natural heritage, and community resilience. She works closely with stakeholders including farming communities, local food producers, and protected area partnerships in Wales. Her work addresses livelihoods, sustainable food economies, place-based food heritage, and the environmental impacts of craft beer and cider production.
Her recent publications highlight trends in rural entrepreneurship, food system resilience during crises like the pandemic, sustainable tourism, and the environmental footprint of small-scale food and drink production. These works reflect a strong focus on action research, community engagement, and policy-relevant outcomes.

Dr Lane supervises multiple PhD students and leads significant research projects, including KESS II collaborations with Menter Mon and the Welsh Government. She is Chair of the Wales Real Food and Farming Conference and a committee member of the Royal Geographical Society’s Rural and Food Geography Research Groups. She also contributes to the North Wales Food Poverty Alliance and is an independent member of Bangor University Senate, demonstrating her leadership in both academic and community spheres.
She is actively involved in research projects on historic houses and sustainability, food poverty mapping, and rural innovation. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to sustainable communities, responsible consumption, and reduced inequalities.
