Dr. Donn Short is a Professor at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Law, where he serves as Associate Dean (Research). He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Journal of Human Rights and Executive Director of the Legal Research Institute at the University of Manitoba. His work intersects legal scholarship with human rights advocacy, particularly focusing on LGBTQ+ youth and safe schools.

Research Interests center on bullying, safe school legislation, legal pluralism, youth culture, and the intersection of law and religion. His scholarship explores how legal frameworks can protect queer youth and address systemic inequities. He has also contributed to theatre works addressing human rights and youth violence.
Scientific Awards include the Rh Institute Foundation Award (2013), Aaron Berg Award (2018), and multiple UM/UMFA Merit Awards (2013, 2014, 2017).
Grants and Roles: Dr. Short has received research grants from the Law Foundation of British Columbia and SSHRC. He founded the Outlaws group at Robson Hall and advocates for artists' rights through organizations like PEN Canada and the Playwrights Guild of Canada.
