Brandon Trask is an Associate Professor at the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Law (Robson Hall) and an Adjunct Fellow at St. John’s College. He holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from the University of Manitoba (2012) and a Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of Toronto (2013). His professional background includes serving as a Crown Attorney in Newfoundland/Labrador and Nova Scotia, where he handled complex criminal cases across multiple court levels.
Trask's research examines criminal law/procedure, evidence, constitutional rights, mental health/disability law, and progressive law/economics. He integrates political economy and institutional design to address systemic justice issues. His publications consistently focus on human rights, social justice, and legal responses to contemporary challenges like pandemics and Indigenous reconciliation.
Trask founded the Rights Clinic at Robson Hall in 2022, focusing on non-litigation advocacy and public legal education. He teaches Criminal Law, Evidence, Constitutional Law, and specialized electives in Mental Health and Disability Law. Recognized for teaching excellence, he received Student Teacher Recognition Awards in 2022 and 2024. Additional honors include being named a Millennium Scholar during undergraduate studies.
Community engagement includes co-editing Robson Crim, serving on graduate supervisory committees, and past roles with Crown Attorneys' associations. He contributes to public discourse through media appearances and op-eds in national publications like The Globe and Mail.
