Diana Johnson

Diana Johnson is a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Law (FBL) at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). She specializes in commercial law, financial crime, and competition law. Her academic roles include module leader for the Commercial Law LLB module and supervision of LLM and PhD students. She holds qualifications such as a PhD, Solicitor status, and memberships like SFHEA and PGDipLaw.

Her research focuses on financial crime, including fraud, money laundering, corporate criminal liability, deferred prosecution agreements, and competition law. A notable publication is her 2025 book Competition Law and Financial Crime, examining benchmark interest rate manipulation and corporate liability. She has contributed to policy discussions through submissions to the Law Commission, Financial Conduct Authority, and HM Treasury.

Professionally, she has led projects like Innovate UK’s £500,000 initiative to transform Suspicious Activity Reports and secured funding via the Higher Education Innovation Funding Scheme. She co-leads the Financial Crime and Cyber Crime Research Network and is part of UWE’s Global Crime, Justice and Security Research Group. She also holds roles in organizations such as the South West Fraud Forum, Journal of Economic Criminology Editorial Board, and International Society of Economic Criminology.

Before academia, she practiced corporate law at Osborne Clarke, specializing in M&A, private equity, and corporate restructurings, and worked at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition in Brussels.
