Samantha Mapston is a Senior Lecturer in Law at the University of the West of England (UWE), Faculty of Business and Law. She is affiliated with the Department of Law and plays a central role in teaching and research related to financial crime and regulation. She leads the Law of Financial Crime and Regulation module on the LLB Programme and the Introduction to Law in a Social, Business and Global Context module on the Foundation Year. She also supervises PhD and LLM dissertation projects in areas related to financial crime law.
Her research centers on the legal frameworks surrounding financial crime, with particular emphasis on money laundering, fraud, and corporate criminal liability. Her work has been published in leading law journals such as the Criminal Law Review and the Journal of Business Law, and has informed policy and practice within law enforcement and governmental agencies.
Samantha has secured significant research funding from external bodies including Innovate UK, Stop Scams UK, and the Home Office, as well as internal support through UWE’s Vice-Chancellor's Early Career Researcher Development Award and the Higher Education Innovation Funding Scheme.
