Dr. McIvor’s scholarly contributions span critical theory applications to modern political challenges, including far-right politics, climate governance, and pandemic responses. He teaches courses such as Environmental Political Theories (POLS 729) and integrates psychoanalytic frameworks to explore unconscious drives in political behavior. His recent work explores 'earthborn democracy'—a theory linking ecological entanglement to democratic renewal—and the role of mourning rituals in fostering social cohesion.
While no formal awards are listed, his prolific publication record reflects sustained academic impact. His research bridges theoretical rigor with practical democratic challenges, emphasizing the need for political systems to confront historical and ecological grief to achieve sustainable justice.
