Dr. David M. Scott is a British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at Queen Mary University of London's School of Law (2024–2027), focusing on temporal frameworks in international legal thought. Previously, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in International Law and Governance at the University of Glasgow (2022–2024), where he contributed to the Scottish Human Rights Bill project and revitalized the Glasgow Human Rights Network. He holds a PhD from the Manchester International Law Centre, an LLM from the University of Helsinki, and an LLB from the University of Glasgow.
His research explores the intersection of time, history, and international law, engaging with critical legal theory and interdisciplinary methodologies. Key projects include analyzing temporal dimensions in international legal discourse and advising on human rights policy in Scotland. David has also served as a Policy Officer at Citizens Advice Scotland (2021–2022), focusing on social security and employment rights, and held visiting research positions at institutions including iCourts (University of Copenhagen) and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public and International Law.
He has secured significant research funding, including a £340,030.83 British Academy Fellowship for his current project. His work appears in journals like Edinburgh Law Review and Hague Yearbook of International Law, addressing topics such as human rights incorporation, legal historiography, and the role of time in legal debates. He actively engages with policy through expert reports, media commentary, and public lectures.
