Professor David Kenny is a Professor of Law and Head of the School of Law at Trinity College Dublin (TCD). His expertise spans Irish and comparative constitutional law, conflict of laws, critical legal theory, and law and literature. He holds a Harvard Law degree and was elected a TCD Fellow in 2021. He has advised numerous governmental bodies, including Ireland’s Citizen’s Assembly and the Oireachtas committees, and contributed to constitutional reform projects across Ireland and internationally.
His research focuses on constitutional culture, referendums, and executive branch legal advising. Notable works include Kelly: The Irish Constitution (5th ed., 2018) and Pragmatism, Law, and Literature (2025). He has also engaged in global projects, such as advising Ukraine’s Constitutional Court appointments and analyzing Korean Peninsula constitutionalism.
Teaching includes Constitutional Law and Conflict of Laws, with awards like TCD’s Provost’s Award for Teaching (2015). Recent publications emphasize constitutional challenges in Ireland, including referendums, executive dominance, and post-pandemic legal responses.
