Professor Danat Valizade is a Professor of Quantitative Employment Research at the Leeds University Business School, University of Leeds. She holds a PhD in Business and Economic Studies (2016) from the University of Leeds and prior qualifications from St Petersburg University of Humanities and Social Sciences. Her expertise spans labour market inequalities, job quality, advanced econometrics, and machine learning applications in HR. She previously held senior roles in Russian trade unions and taught at St Petersburg University.
Her research focuses on the societal and organizational contexts shaping the future of work, particularly digital technologies’ impact and persistent labour market inequalities. She leads the ESRC-funded Digit Centre’s analysis of employers’ digital practices and currently explores causal links between EDI and organizational performance via National Highways funding. She co-edits New Technology, Work and Employment and Work, Employment and Society.
Professor Valizade teaches quantitative methods, HRM, and people analytics, including modules under the Q-Step initiative. She directs the MSc in Data Analytics and HRM program and supervises doctoral and masters students. Her recent work combines causal inference methods with machine learning to analyze workforce dynamics.
Key research areas include digital transformation in workplaces, nurse staffing’s impact on care quality, and intersectional analysis of solicitors’ careers. Her grants include funding from ESRC, NIHR, European Parliament, and National Highways. She collaborates with the Centre for Employment Relations, Innovation and Change (CERIC).
Professional memberships include the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA), where she previously chaired the doctoral network, and the Labor and Employment Relations Association. Her work bridges advanced quantitative techniques with critical social science perspectives on work and employment.
