Dr. Damien Clement is a Professor in the College of Applied Human Sciences and Associate Dean at the Honors College at West Virginia University. His academic career spans roles in teaching, research, and administrative leadership.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from the University of Charleston (2003)
- Doctoral degree in Sport and Exercise Psychology and Master’s degree in Community Counseling from West Virginia University (2008)
Research Interests focus on Sport and Exercise Psychology and Athletic Training, particularly:
- Professional issues in sport psychology and athletic training
- Psychology of sport injury
- Psychological skills training for injured athletes
- Performance enhancement in individual and team settings
Administrative Leadership includes:
- Launching the Honors Foundations Program (2017–2019)
- Developing a summer bridge program for incoming Honors freshmen
- Implementing diversity initiatives: affinity groups for students of color and LGBTQ+ students, multicultural trainings, and expanded diversity-related course offerings
Professional Affiliations encompass membership in the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, National Athletic Trainers’ Association, West Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association, and American Psychological Association. He also holds certifications as a Certified Athletic Trainer, National Certified Counselor, and AASP Certified Consultant.
