Dr. Marc Cormier is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion at the University of Kentucky. He directs the Sport and Exercise Psychology Graduate Program and teaches courses on sport psychology, injury rehabilitation, group dynamics, and applied performance strategies. With a 50% appointment in UK Athletics, he oversees counseling and performance psychology services for NCAA teams, working with SEC/Bowl champions and Olympic athletes. His research focuses on psychological aspects of injury, team cohesion, and mental skills training, published internationally.
He holds a Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from West Virginia University (2014) and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC), Licensed Professional Counselor (Associate), and member of the USOC Sport Psychology registry.
Recipient of multiple teaching awards including the 2021 UK Outstanding Teacher and 2022 Teaching Excellence Award (AASP), he was inducted as an AASP Fellow in 2024. Beyond academia, he advises Fortune 500 leaders and emergency responders on performance psychology through speaking engagements. Personal interests include hockey, triathlons, and family life in Lexington.
His program oversees graduate training in applied sport psychology, emphasizing evidence-based practice for athletes and non-sport performers. Professional certifications and industry collaborations highlight his dual academic/athletic role.
