Dae-Hee Kwak is an Associate Professor in the Sport Management program within the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan. He also serves as the Graduate Program Director for Sport Management and Director of the Center for Sport Marketing Research (CSMAR) at the University of Michigan.
Dr. Kwak completed his PhD in Kinesiology at the University of Maryland. His primary research focuses on sport consumer behavior and psychology, examining how sport consumers think, feel, and make decisions within various sport-related contexts.
His research interests include:
- Sport consumer behavior
- Sport consumer psychology
- Sport media behavior
- Mental health in sports
- Athlete activism
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion in sports
Dr. Kwak's scholarly work spans multiple disciplines including sport management, marketing, psychology, and sociology. His recent research examines mental health disclosure by athletes, athlete activism (particularly related to Black Lives Matter), diversity and inclusion initiatives, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sport consumption.
His research has been published in over 50 peer-reviewed articles across leading journals such as:

Dr. Kwak has received several prestigious awards including:

Dr. Kwak is frequently sought by media outlets for his expertise, having appeared in Bloomberg, NPR, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal. He teaches courses in sport marketing, consumer behavior, and sponsorship-linked marketing at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
