Colm McGrath is a Senior Lecturer in Tort Law at King's College London's Dickson Poon School of Law and a Guest Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame's London Law Programme. He joined King's in 2018 and serves as Module Convenor for the Law of Tort. Previously, he held roles including WYNG Research Fellow in Medical Law and Ethics at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and University Lecturer in Law at the University of Graz. He earned his law degrees from the University of Cambridge.
His research focuses on comparative private law, professional liability, and medical law, with a particular emphasis on medical liability regulation in the UK and Europe. His monograph on German medical liability history was recognized as a Legal Book of the Year in 2019. He contributes to legal education through roles as joint General Editor of the Journal of Professional Negligence and Book Review Editor for the Journal of European Tort Law, alongside fellowships with the European Centre for Tort and Insurance Law.
McGrath's recent work includes analyses of AI governance in healthcare, historical legal themes, and anti-racist pedagogy in tort law. He actively engages with the medical community through professional development programs. His teaching spans Tort Law, Medical Law, Comparative Law, and Legal History. He advocates for accessible legal education and enjoys blues guitar, cooking, and hiking.
