Colm McGrath is a Senior Lecturer in Tort Law at the Dickson Poon School of Law, King's College London, since January 2018. He is also a member of the School's Centre of Medical Law and Ethics, an Academic Fellow of the Middle Temple, and a Global Associate Professor at the University of Notre Dame’s London programme. Previously, he held roles such as WYNG Research Fellow in Medical Law and Ethics at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, and was affiliated with the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Law, Medicine and Life Sciences. His research focuses on comparative private law, professional liability (particularly medical liability), and the interplay between private law and society. He has authored a monograph recognized as a 'Legal Book of the Year' in Germany (2019) and contributes to academic journals as an editor. His teaching includes Tort Law, Medical Law, Contract Law, Comparative Law, Roman Law, and Legal History.
Education: Colm holds a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in Law from the University of Cambridge. He has taught at the University of Graz and served as a scientific assistant at the Institute for European Tort Law in Vienna.
Research Interests: His work emphasizes comparative legal systems, medical liability evolution, and the historical context of legal frameworks. He has engaged in professional education for medical practitioners in the UK and Hong Kong.
Publications: Over 15 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, including seminal works on medical liability, comparative law, and tort law theory. His 2019 monograph on German medical liability remains influential.
Awards: Recognition from the Neue Juristische Wochenschrift (2019) for his monograph.
