Dr Stelios Tofaris is a University Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Girton College. He holds both an MA and PhD from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. His research focuses on Legal History, Tort Law, Contract Law, Roman Law, and Comparative Law. He has been recognized with the University of Cambridge Pilkington Prize for Excellence in University Teaching (2018) and serves as the Book Review Editor of the Cambridge Law Journal.
He is affiliated with the Cambridge Private Law Centre (CPLC) and the Centre for English Legal History (CELH). His academic work spans landmark legal cases and theoretical debates, including contributions to consumer law, public liability, and cross-jurisdictional legal analysis. Tofaris has published extensively on topics such as exemption clauses in commercial contracts, negligence liability of public bodies, and the transplantation of legal systems in comparative contexts.
