Dr. Björn Christian Becker is a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law, Humboldt University of Berlin, since October 2024. He serves as Deputy Chair for the Chair of Civil Law, German and European Economic and Competition Law, and Economics, previously held by the late Prof. Dr. Heike Schweitzer. His academic career includes roles as Akademischer Rat a.Z. (Tenure-Track Researcher) at Julius-Maximilians-University Würzburg (since February 2020, on leave until September 2026), and research positions at institutions in Germany, France, and Malaysia.
- Education: Second State Exam in Law (2019), Dr. iur. (2018) from Würzburg University, First State Exam (2013-II), and legal studies with a degree in European Law (2008-2014).
His research focuses on Competition Law, particularly in Digital Markets, Sports Law, and Private Enforcement of antitrust regulations. Key contributions include works on killer acquisitions, employee poaching, and the interplay between the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and EU competition law. Recent publications analyze the binding effects of cartel settlements, merger control thresholds, and third-party rights in antitrust cases.
Becker’s academic work spans interdisciplinary analysis of legal and economic aspects of competition policy, evidenced by his co-organization of the Interdisciplinary Forum Competition (IFW) and contributions to conferences in Germany, Belgium, and Malaysia. His scientific awards include:
