Birgitta Nyström is a Professor of Private Law and a Researcher in the Department of Law at Lund University, affiliated with the Lund University Centre for Business Law (ACLU). Her work focuses on Swedish and Nordic Labour Law within a European and global context, emphasizing collective Labour Law and industrial relations. She holds roles as Chair of the Appointments Board and contributes to academic governance.
Her research explores themes such as globalization’s impact on labour laws, European social rights, and legal instruments for social protection. She has authored or edited over 120 publications, including books, chapters, and policy consultations. Notable contributions include works on the European Social Charter and constitutional frameworks for social security.
Prof. Nyström actively engages with policy, serving as an Expert in the European Committee of Social Rights (Council of Europe) and contributing to governmental inquiries (SOU). She teaches Labour and Business Law at Lund University and internationally, prioritizing both academic rigor and practical relevance.
She leads or participates in projects like the Lund Human Rights Research Hub, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. Her professional network spans academia, policy-making, and legal practice, reflecting her dual focus on scholarship and real-world legal challenges.
