Birgitta Nyström is a Professor of Private Law and holds academic positions at the Department of Law, Lund University, and the Lund University Centre for Business Law. Her research focuses on Swedish and Nordic Labour Law within European and global contexts, emphasizing collective Labour Law, industrial relations, and business law intersections.
She serves as an expert in governmental inquiries (SOU) and is a member of the European Committee of Social Rights. Her teaching spans domestic and international institutions, with a strong practitioner connection in Labour Law. Key research areas include EU Labour Law, social rights, employment regulations, and legal frameworks affecting workplace dynamics.
Recent activities include contributions to projects like the Lund Human Rights Research Hub and the seniority principle in redundancy situations.
