Barry E. Adler is the Lawrence King Professor of Law and Associate Dean for Information Systems and Technology at New York University School of Law. He holds a BS from Cornell University (1982) and a JD from the University of Chicago Law School (1985). His research focuses on applying corporate finance theory to bankruptcy law, emphasizing its integration with contract, property, and tort law. He co-authored a leading bankruptcy casebook and is working on a book about contracts remedies. Courses taught include Bankruptcy, Contracts, Torts, and interdisciplinary seminars on law, economics, and journalism.
Adler clerked for Judge Frank Easterbrook of the 7th Circuit and practiced at Cleary Gottlieb before joining academia. He has taught at Columbia, UVA, and Yale law schools. His scholarship bridges theoretical and empirical analyses of legal frameworks in financial distress scenarios. He advocates for modernizing legal education through courses like 'Law, Economics, and Equality' and collaborates with journalists to explore societal issues.
