Barbara Wampner serves as Full Time Faculty at Dominican University of California, holding dual roles as Director of the Suzuki School of Music and Cello Instructor within the School of Liberal Arts and Education. With 40 years of continuous service at Dominican, she maintains active leadership positions including registered cello teacher trainer for the Suzuki Association of the Americas, chair of the SAA Cello Revisions Committee, and International Suzuki Association representative.
Her academic credentials comprise:
- MA in Cello Performance from San Francisco State University
- BM Ed from Northwestern University
- Graduate certification from Talent Education Institute, Matsumoto, Japan (studied under Dr. Shinichi Suzuki)
Wampner's professional focus centers on music education methodology, specializing in cello instruction through the Suzuki approach. Her expertise in string pedagogy manifests through global engagements as a guest clinician at international conferences and festivals across Peru, Chile, Korea, Japan, and Australia, where she trains educators in developmental music teaching techniques for young learners.
Leading the Suzuki School of Music program, she oversees institutional music education while maintaining a private cello studio. Her prior 13-year teaching tenure with San Francisco Unified School District (concluded before 1979) established her foundational classroom experience before transitioning to Dominican's specialized music program.
