Christie Felsing serves as Director of Teaching and Learning at the University of Hartford's Hartt Community Division (HCD), holding dual roles as Suzuki Violin Faculty and Music Skills Specialist in Suzuki Pedagogy within The Hartt School's Instrumental Studies department. She teaches violin in the Hartt Suzuki Program and leads graduate-level Suzuki pedagogy courses.
Her academic credentials include:
- Bachelor of Music (BM) from the University of Wisconsin–Madison
- Master of Music (MM) in Suzuki pedagogy from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville
Additional training comprises a nine-month Suzuki internship with Doris Preucil and arts administration certification (AMICI) through the National Guild of Community Schools of the Arts.
Felsing's professional focus centers on Suzuki-based violin pedagogy and music education philosophy. She implements Shinichi Suzuki's principles through a step-by-step approach emphasizing child potential development, positive learning environments, and the critical Suzuki triangle (teacher-parent-child). Prior to her current position, she served 17 years (1996-2014) as assistant director and violin faculty at Iowa's Preucil School of Music.
