Julie Sturm is a Teaching Professor of Music in the Department of Music at Iowa State University, where she has served since 2010. She holds a PhD in Music Theory from the University of Arizona (1996), an MM in Cello from Indiana University (1983), and a BM in Cello Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (1982). Dr. Sturm is a Fulbright Scholar (1990–91), recognized for her research on German Harmonielehre. She maintains active roles in music performance and education, including principal cello of the Des Moines Symphony since 1998.

Her expertise spans music theory pedagogy, German harmonic traditions, and cello performance.
