Machiko Kobialka

Machiko Kobialka is a Grammy-nominated pianist, Fulbright scholar, and educator at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM) Pre-College Division. With over 40 years of international performance experience, she has premiered works by Pulitzer Prize winners like William Bolcom and Wayne Peterson at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Schoenberg Institute. Her career spans collaborations with orchestras, teaching at California State University at Hayward, and adjudicating competitions in the U.S.

• Education: Master of Music (MM) from Catholic University, Bachelor of Music (BM) from Hartt College of Music, and Toho-Gakuen School of Music.

Machiko is passionate about contemporary music, commissioning new compositions, and chamber music. She has recorded for Sonic Arts and Desto Records and remains a key figure in the Chancellor’s Concert Series at the University of California, San Francisco. Her students have won prominent piano and chamber music competitions.

She teaches advanced students at SFCM, focusing on piano performance, and has performed extensively in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. Her unrealized project includes visiting museums, and she emphasizes the importance of understanding the historical context of music.
