Ata Jami is a Research Assistant Professor of Marketing at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University (2018–present). His research explores consumer judgment and decision-making, focusing on how contextual cues and sensory systems influence perceptions and behaviors. He holds a PhD in Marketing from the University of Utah (2012), an MBA from the University of Malaya (2006), and a BS in Industrial Engineering from Sharif University of Technology (2003).
His research spans laboratory and field studies, addressing topics like prosocial behavior, risk-taking, and consumer ethics. Notable work includes studies on psychological ownership driving generosity, mirror-induced self-awareness affecting taste perceptions, and the moral licensing effects of prosocial marketing messages. His findings have been published in top journals such as Journal of Consumer Research and Management Science.
Dr. Jami teaches Negotiations Fundamentals in the Full-Time and Evening & Weekend MBA programs at Kellogg. His pedagogical focus emphasizes negotiation strategy, dispute resolution, and ethical decision-making. He has also contributed applied insights via articles in Kellogg Insight and Harvard Business Review, including work on negotiation tactics and the unintended consequences of praising ethical consumer choices.
He received the Excellence in Research Award from the University of Central Florida (2016–2017). His research portfolio demonstrates a consistent exploration of how environmental and cognitive factors shape consumer decisions across diverse contexts.
