Ashley Tuttle is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Dance at Barnard University. A renowned prima ballerina, she joined American Ballet Theatre (ABT) at 16 and spent 17 years performing iconic roles such as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty. Her repertoire includes works by George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, and others. Beyond performance, she is dedicated to dance education, teaching at Barnard University, the Mark Morris Dance Group, and The School at Steps. She has also served as Artist in Residence with the Eglevsky Ballet and volunteers with Groove With Me, a Harlem-based dance school for at-risk youth, since 2007.
Her career highlights include Broadway performances in Twyla Tharp’s Come Fly Away and Movin’ Out, earning TONY and Fred Astaire Award nominations. Tuttle’s teaching philosophy emphasizes sharing classical techniques and choreographic insights with students of all ages. She has staged ballets globally and remains active as a guest artist with institutions like Princeton University and Dance Theater of Harlem.
Recognized for her contributions, she received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Wofford College in 2011. Her work bridges performance, education, and community outreach, reflecting a lifelong commitment to dance as both art and pedagogy.
