Katie Glasner is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Dance at Barnard College, Columbia University, where she has been a faculty member since 1998. She teaches and advises students in ballet, modern dance, and choreography, and directs Barnard's Summer Dance Study and pre-college programs. Her professional career includes performances with Twyla Tharp Dance Company (1977–1987), Broadway musicals like Singin' in the Rain, and film/TV roles such as Amadeus and Confessions of a Corner Maker.
Educated at Columbia University (BA), her academic focus spans ballet, modern rehearsal techniques, and repertory. She has choreographed musicals like The King and I and co-choreographed works for Princeton Ballet School. Notably, she has restaged Twyla Tharp’s Eight Jelly Rolls for multiple universities and companies.
Ms. Glasner is affiliated with the National Dance Education Organization. Her 2012 Dance Teacher Award recognizes her contributions to higher education in dance. Beyond teaching, her work explores gender and empowerment through dance, exemplified by her 2024 virtual performance project.
