Jennifer Archibald is an Adjunct Lecturer at Columbia University’s Barnard College Dance Department and a prominent figure in dance choreography and education. She serves as founder and Artistic Director of Arch Dance Company and the Archcore40 Summer Program. Her affiliations include faculty roles at Steps on Broadway, Broadway Dance Center, Gibney Dance, CAP21, and residencies at institutions like Rhode Island College, Howard University, and Balettakademien.
Education: Graduated from The Ailey School and the Maggie Flanigan Acting Conservatory, specializing in Meisner technique. Her choreographic work spans commercial projects with NBA New York Knicks City Dancers, Broadway musicals (Carousel, Pippin), and ballet companies including Atlanta Ballet, Cincinnati Ballet, and Kansas City Ballet.
Research Interests: Specializes in Hip Hop dance culture, contemporary choreography, and the intersection of dance with theater and performance. Her work emphasizes storytelling through movement, exemplified by Seven, a biographical piece on Olympic athlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee for MADCO dance company.
Awards: Selected as one of four choreographers for Ailey’s New Directions Choreography Lab (2013) under Robert Battle, a prestigious platform for emerging choreographers.
Grants & Residencies: Current artist-in-residence at multiple U.S. institutions. Internationally, she has taught in China, Ecuador, Brazil, Sweden, Russia, Slovenia, and Canada. Her upcoming engagements include a role at Yale School of Drama this fall.
