Professor Ashlea Troth is a distinguished academic in the Department of Management at Griffith Business School, Griffith University. She serves as Deputy Director of the Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing (WOW), a position she has held since July 2021. Previously, she was Deputy Head of Employment Relations and Human Resources (October 2014-June 2020) and Director of Learning and Teaching (October 2014-December 2019). Her academic journey includes a PhD in Psychology from the University of Queensland (1999) and a Master of Organizational Psychology from Griffith University (2012).
Professor Troth's research focuses on emotional regulation and emotional intelligence in workplace contexts, examining their impact on wellbeing and performance outcomes. Her work employs multi-level and multi-method approaches to understand how individuals manage emotions in professional settings. She has particular expertise in frontline managers' daily work experiences and how their emotional regulation strategies affect wellbeing during task execution. Her research extends to workplace wellbeing, leadership, employment equity and diversity, and organizational behavior more broadly.
Her recent publications reveal a strong emphasis on emotional regulation in turbulent work environments, with significant contributions to understanding how employees navigate workplace stress, insecurity, and organizational change. The research portfolio demonstrates consistent focus on practical applications of emotional intelligence theory in real-world organizational settings, particularly in healthcare, construction, and educational contexts.
Professor Troth has supervised numerous doctoral students across diverse topics including workplace wellbeing, emotional intelligence, leadership, and organizational change. Her supervisory record spans from 2003 to present, with several current doctoral candidates working on projects related to cultural safety, healthcare leadership, innovation, and workforce reintegration.
As an active researcher, she has published in leading journals such as the Journal of Organizational Behavior, The Leadership Quarterly, and Human Resource Management, establishing herself as a significant contributor to organizational psychology literature.
