Anton K. Schindler is the Mountain Spirit Professor of Structural Engineering and Director of the Highway Research Center at Auburn University’s Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, with a focus on concrete technology and structural integrity. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (University of Texas, 2002) and degrees from the University of Pretoria.
- Research Specialization: Early-age concrete behavior, high-performance concrete, durability, self-consolidating concrete (SCC), thermal cracking mitigation, and computer modeling.
- Leadership: Director of Highway Research Center (2017-present), active roles in ACI Technical Activities Committee (2020-present), and chair of TRB committees.
His recent research spans concrete shrinkage measurement (Springer, 2025), bridge strengthening with titanium alloys (Elsevier, 2024), and sustainable practices like co-processing wind turbine waste in cement. Awards include the 2025 ACI Building the Future Award and 2013 ASCE/ACI Fellowships.
Scientific Awards:
- 2025 ACI Foundation Building the Future Award
- 2021 ACI Delmar L. Bloem Distinguished Service Award
- 2019 ASCE Fellow
- 2013 ACI Fellow
- 2012 William F. Walker Merit Teaching Award
- Multiple Wason Medals (2011, 2006)
He contributes to infrastructure diagnostics through non-destructive testing methods (Elsevier, 2022) and trains students in cement hydration processes (ACI, 2023). His work aligns with Auburn’s Transportation Research Institute, advancing Alabama’s transportation systems.
