Kimberly E. Kurtis

Kimberly E. Kurtis is a Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and serves as Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Scholarship in the College of Engineering. She leads faculty development, tenure processes, and hiring strategies while conducting groundbreaking research on cement-based materials and sustainable infrastructure. Her work focuses on multiscale structure-performance relationships, durability, and nondestructive evaluation methods. Dr. Kurtis holds a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and has authored over 200 publications and three patents. She is a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute and American Ceramics Society, with leadership roles in ACI and ACerS committees.

Research interests include sustainable cementitious materials, fiber-cement composites, and machine learning applications in material design. Her studies on alkali-silica reaction mitigation and LC3 binders advance low-carbon construction practices. Awards include the ACI Walter P. Moore Faculty Achievement Award and ASCE Huber Prize. She advises on federal highway projects and promotes diversity in engineering through ADVANCE initiatives.
