Anthony E. Williams, D.M.A., is Associate Professor of Music and University Organist at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he teaches organ and courses in music history. He also serves as Organist and Choir Director at First Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville, TN, and has previously held faculty appointments at Dillard University, Delgado Community College, and New Orleans Baptist Seminary.

Research & Creative Interests
Dr. Williams’s scholarship and performance activities concentrate on organ music by Black composers, African-American sacred and secular music traditions, jazz history, and the broader intersections of culture and music in America. His work addresses both historical and pedagogical dimensions, aiming to expand the canon of standard organ repertoire and to illuminate overlooked contributions by African-American artists.
Publications & Performances
Across peer-reviewed journals, encyclopedias, and scholarly books, Williams has authored chapters and articles on figures such as Sara Martin and Marie Selika Williams, spirituals, jazz historiography, and organ literature. He has presented lecture-recitals and workshops on Organ Music of Black Composers at multiple national conventions of the American Guild of Organists (2016, 2022), the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, and universities nationwide. His organ recital itinerary spans more than 60 cities in the United States plus venues in Belize City and Geneva, reflecting an international profile as a concert artist.

Laboratory & Ensembles
At Fisk, Dr. Williams guides the University Organ program and has directed the internationally renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers, America’s earliest touring ensemble of African-American spirituals. Through master classes, Pipe Organ Encounters, and summer institutes, he mentors emerging organists and pianists across the Southeast.
