Wayne Wold is a Professor of Music and College Organist at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, where he taught from 1990 to 2020. He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Music (Organ) at Shenandoah Conservatory/University. His roles include Director of Music Ministry at First Lutheran Church of Ellicott City, Maryland. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) from Shenandoah Conservatory, a Master of Sacred Music (MSM) from Wittenberg University, and a Bachelor of Music (BMus) from Concordia College.
Wold’s research interests span music composition, organ performance, liturgical music, and hymn writing. He has composed over 400 works, including organ pieces, choral music, and hymns featured in U.S. and Australian hymnals. His articles and a monthly column in The American Organist highlight his scholarly contributions.
His awards include the 2020 Laughlin Faculty Achievement Award and the 2015 Alumnus of Excellence Award. He actively performs with orchestras such as the Maryland Symphony and Frederick Symphony, and leads workshops for organizations like the American Guild of Organists.
Wold has held leadership roles at Hood College, including department chair and faculty senate chair. His community engagement includes 17 years as Director of Chapel Music at Camp David and extensive church music ministry.
