Annemaree Carroll is a Professor of Educational Psychology at the School of Education, The University of Queensland, and currently serves as Associate Dean (Research) in the HaSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) Faculty. She holds a PhD in Educational Psychology (1995) from The University of Western Australia and a Master of Education (1991) from The University of Queensland. Her research focuses on social-emotional learning, student well-being, and interventions targeting behavioral outcomes in children and adolescents. She is renowned for developing programs like the Mindfields Suite and KooLKIDS, which address emotion regulation and resilience in educational settings. Additionally, she has led projects exploring neurodevelopmental disorders and teacher well-being.
Carroll has managed large-scale research initiatives, including her role as Coordinator of Translational Outcomes in the Australian Research Council’s Science of Learning Research Centre (2014–2020). She co-founded the UQ Learning Lab, a multidisciplinary hub advancing education through research translation. Her work emphasizes partnerships between academia and industry to address learning priorities. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia (2018).
Key research themes include teacher emotion regulation, the impact of loneliness on mental health, and interventions for antisocial behavior. Her publications span books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles across educational psychology, developmental psychology, and clinical interventions. Current projects include studies on teacher stress, adolescent metacognition, and school attendance strategies.
Notable grants and partnerships include the ARC Linkage Project on school-wide social-emotional wellbeing (2015–2018) and collaborations with Queensland’s Department of Education on attendance strategies. Her work bridges theory and practice, with a focus on scalable, evidence-based solutions for educational challenges.
