Dr. Amanda Bourgeois is a Research Fellow at the UQ Learning Lab within the School of Education at The University of Queensland, where she also serves as a Casual Academic. Her work focuses on transforming education through science-based approaches to learning, teaching, and training across diverse school contexts, with particular emphasis on adolescent development and well-being.
Her academic qualifications include:
- Masters (Coursework) of Educational Studies (Adv), The University of Queensland
- Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology, The University of Queensland
Dr. Bourgeois specializes in the adolescent 'dip' phenomenon—a decline in social, emotional, and cognitive skills around age 15—investigating its manifestations in academic well-being, emotion regulation, engagement, curiosity, creativity, and self-esteem. Her research prioritizes disadvantaged adolescents from low socioeconomic backgrounds, examining classroom emotions, student-teacher relationships, and self-efficacy. She pioneered the S2* emotion application for real-time classroom emotion tracking and advocates for co-designed interventions with education stakeholders to support adolescent development.
Her publication record demonstrates consistent focus on adolescent well-being across educational contexts, with recent works addressing classroom boredom, emotion regulation in disadvantaged students, and translating research into practical educator resources. She bridges academic research and real-world application through media contributions in The Conversation and THE Campus.
Dr. Bourgeois is not available for student supervision and has no publicly documented research grants. As a core member of the UQ Learning Lab, she collaborates with multidisciplinary researchers, educators, and industry partners to develop evidence-based resources addressing adolescent development challenges.
