Anjanette DeCarlo, Ph.D., is a Lecturer I at the Grossman School of Business, University of Vermont. She holds a doctorate in Natural Resources and Environment from the same institution. Her primary role is Chief Sustainability Scientist at the Aromatic Plant Research Center, where she focuses on anthropological and ecological research involving aromatic and medicinal species, alongside ecological supply chain analysis. She is founder of the Save Frankincense initiative and a consultant for ethical supply web development in the private sector. Dr. DeCarlo also serves on the Board of Directors for the Somaliland Biodiversity Foundation and the Global Frankincense Alliance.
Her research emphasizes post-conflict evaluations of natural assets and cross-cultural environmental projects in regions such as Somaliland, Ethiopia, Sierra Leone, and others. Previously, she led programs at the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics and the Natural Resources Defense Council, pioneering socially responsible business benchmarks and triple bottom line reporting. Her work on frankincense has garnered media attention from CNN, the New York Times, and National Geographic.
Dr. DeCarlo’s expertise spans sustainability science, ecological economics, and international development, with a focus on integrating environmental conservation with ethical business practices. Her global fieldwork and interdisciplinary approach address complex challenges in supply chain transparency and biodiversity preservation.
