Professor Gold's research focuses on the philosophical foundations of private law, with particular emphasis on fiduciary relationships, corporate governance, and the intersection of equity and corporate law. His work often examines law as a complex system, exploring how legal concepts form deep structural frameworks that shape rights and obligations. He has made significant contributions to understanding loyalty concepts in fiduciary law, the role of equity in corporate governance, and the theoretical underpinnings of private law remedies.
His recent publications reveal a trend toward increasingly sophisticated theoretical frameworks that integrate insights from philosophy, systems theory, and institutional analysis. Gold's scholarship demonstrates a consistent focus on the structural elements of private law while expanding into broader examinations of legal concepts as deep structures that govern social and economic relationships. His collaborative work with Henry Smith on modularity, complexity, and information costs in private law represents an important methodological innovation in the field.
