Dr. Martin Gold is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Business, University of Wollongong. He transitioned to academia in 2003 after a distinguished career in finance, including roles as a fund manager, investment analyst, and co-founder of a derivatives-focused private investment firm. His expertise spans investment theory, fiduciary standards, and innovation in financial services. Gold’s research emphasizes FinTech, corporate governance, and socio-technical systems, with a focus on improving regulatory frameworks and stakeholder outcomes.
Before academia, Gold held senior roles at institutions like ASSIRT Research (now S&P) and Royal SunAlliance, managing over $3bn in assets. His work bridges academia and industry, including applied research projects for firms like CareSuper and NAB Business Bank. He has authored influential books, including Corporate Governance and Investment Fiduciaries (2003) and a monograph Fiduciary Finance (2011). His research has been recognized with JASSA Merit Awards and presented globally at venues such as the Stockholm School of Economics and the University of Surrey.
Gold’s recent studies explore FinTech innovation, platform business models, and lessons from high-risk industries like aviation and healthcare to enhance financial regulation. He has advised on public sector investment reforms and prudential regulation, contributing to media discussions in the Australian Financial Review.
