Eric Nowak

Eric Nowak is a Full Professor of Financial Management and Accounting at the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Faculty of Economics, and is affiliated with the Institute of Finance (IFin) and the Center for Climate Finance and Sustainability (CCFS). He has held visiting and adjunct positions at institutions including COPPEAD Rio de Janeiro, CEIBS Shanghai, Witten/Herdecke, and the University of Luxembourg School of Finance. He served as Senior Visiting Professor at the National University of Singapore and as a Visiting Scholar at Stanford University’s Rock Center for Corporate Governance.

His research spans Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Entrepreneurship, Economic and Business History, Family Firms, Law & Finance, and Sustainability in Finance. He has published in top journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Business Venturing, and Business History, focusing on governance, innovation, historical finance, and FinTech. His recent work emphasizes climate risk disclosure, equity valuation, and regulatory impacts on markets.

His publications demonstrate a strong interdisciplinary trend, combining finance with historical, legal, and sustainability perspectives. He has contributed to understanding how institutional frameworks shape financial systems and entrepreneurial outcomes, especially in family firms and emerging markets. His leadership in the European Research Network on ‘Regional Comparative Advantage and Knowledge Based Entrepreneurship’ highlights his role in advancing regional innovation studies.

Eric Nowak has supervised numerous research projects and advised on FinTech and governance initiatives.
