Andrew Gold is a Professor of Law at Brooklyn Law School, serving as associate director of the Center for the Study of Business Law and Regulation and director of its Program on Private Law. He teaches courses in corporations, torts, and seminars on equity, tort theory, and fiduciary law. His research focuses on private law theory, fiduciary law, and corporate law. Gold is renowned for his book The Right of Redress (2020), which proposes a new theory of private law, and co-edited The American Law Institute: A Centennial History (2023). He has held visiting professorships at Harvard Law School, the University of Oxford, and McGill University.
Gold earned his J.D. from Duke University School of Law and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. His academic contributions include over 20 influential articles published in journals like Michigan Law Review and Northwestern University Law Review, as well as co-editing books such as Philosophical Foundations of Fiduciary Law (2014). His research explores themes like fiduciary loyalty, corporate governance, and redressive justice.
Gold’s scholarly work emphasizes the intersection of legal theory and practical application, particularly in corporate and fiduciary contexts. His articles consistently address foundational questions in private law, including the nature of legal rights, remedies, and moral obligations within legal relationships.
He is a member of the American Law Institute and co-founder of the North American Workshop on Private Law Theory. His recent publications highlight evolving approaches to fiduciary duties, contractual obligations, and the philosophical underpinnings of legal redress.
